WHAT IS A WIFI GATEWAY?
A WiFi Gateway is a specially configured
wireless router. It performs similar to a low-cost
commercial router that you can purchase at your local
computer shop. However, where it differs is in the firmware
which controls the unit. The specially configured firmware
forces the router to connect to Whotspot's backend servers
on the internet. This allows your custom portal page to
appear and requires all users to sign in with a valid
account before they can surf freely. The intelligence is
hosted on our servers, and the router simply takes orders
from our servers based on what services you have asked us to
perform. So, while you can purchase a lower cost WiFi Router
at your local shop, you can not purchase
firmware-configured Whotspot Gateway there.

The Sputnik-Powered NexAira NexConnect uses 3G cellular
networks or traditional DSL/cable service for

Our Gateways are preconfigured to support
Dynamic IP and Static IP. However, if you are using PPPoE
(Ask your ISP) you will need an additional low cost router
to connect between the Whotspot Gateway and your DSL Modem.
If you have a PPPoE connection from your ISP, it will
be necessary to first connect another low cost router to
your internet connection. Any router that supports PPPoE is
fine. Typical products like the D-Link DI-604 or Netgear RP614 are excellent choices. After you
have configured the router to connect to your ISP, simply
plug the WS Gateway into one of the router’s LAN ports. No
additional configuration will be needed. You may also
purchase a router in our eStore.
Creating a Hot Spot couldn’t be easier!

Scout out potential hotspot locations. Read through our
section on Market Solutions for some great ideas!

Talk to the location owner. Explain how the system works. If the
location owner is willing to purchase the equipment, sell it to them at
the full list price. You will receive a commission directly
from Whotspot, and recurring commissions on all revenue generated from
users surfing at the location. If the location owner does not want to
purchase the equipment, you buy it and own the WiFi location. Typically,
you will offer the location owner a percentage of the revenue in the
range of 10% - 20%. In a short while, you will have
recouped your investment and started up the path to profitability.
